『まだ英語も話せないし、プレッシャーは大きいです。ものの考え方や習慣が違うので、気をつかわなければならないこと、予想外のこともたくさんあります。しかしストレスの原因となることがあるとしても、それはそれでおもしろいと思います。ぼくが生きていることの意味を感じられるのは、そうしたことのおかげではないでしょうか。』」（p.26）

Asked if he feels anxiety about the prospect of living abroad in Seattle, Ichiro answered, "I still can't speak English, and there's a lot of pressure. There are a lot of things to worry about, unexpected things, because the mentality and the manners are different. Even if there are things that become somewhat stressful, I think they're interesting. Isn't it because of those things that I am able to be struck by the significance of being alive?"
